Collect Victoria short stay levy starting 1 April 2025

Hello,

Following our December 2024 communication regarding the Victorian 7.5% short stay levy (SSL), we are writing to provide important updates and action items.

Since Vrbo is required to pay the SSL to the Victoria State Revenue Office (SRO), and you are collecting payments from travelers, please collect an 8.11% SSL from travelers for bookings made from 1 April 2025 onwards. Vrbo will issue invoices to collect the SSL from you.

Action Items:

  1. Collect SSL: Add an 8.11% SSL on room price (inclusive of applicable GST, cleaning fee and etc. Refer to SRO’s FAQ regarding how to calculate SSL) for bookings starting 1 April 2025. The SSL should be set up as a “tax” in your software so that it would not be commissionable (you may wish to confirm with your software provider).
  2. PPR Exemption: For Primary Place of Residence (PPR) exemptions, complete the PPR form (refer to the SRO’s link here) and notify our support team. Our support team will then email you to request the completed PPR declaration.
  3. Invoicing: After collecting, hold the SSL funds. Vrbo will invoice you every six months starting December 2025. The invoice will be issued two months after each six-month period. For example, our first invoice will be sent in December 2025, covering the period from 1 April 2025 to 30 September 2025 (check-out date basis).

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
